Emergency Hornet Removal in Alabama

Bald-faced hornets construct these massive, enclosed carton structures using chewed wood fibers mixed with saliva. Despite their name, they are aggressive aerial yellowjackets capable of stinging repeatedly without losing their barbs. Populations peak in late summer and early autumn throughout Alabama, often housing up to seven hundred aggressive guards that vigorously attack anything encroaching within ten feet.

Sub-freezing temperatures eventually kill off the sterile worker caste and the old founding queen, but heated home attics insulate colonies longer into the season. Only freshly mated queens survive winter by hibernating under tree bark or inside exterior wall insulation. Leaving an untreated nest inside structural voids risks foul odors from decomposing larvae and attracts scavenger beetles throughout winter.

Insects do not reoccupy abandoned paper combs from previous seasons, but fertile queens frequently seek the same warm microclimate beneath protected rooflines. Residual scent markers left behind in unsealed soffits can attract newly mated queens emerging from winter dormancy. Professional removal includes scraping away structural anchors, applying repellent barriers, and recommending exclusion mesh over attic louver vents.

Keep children and domestic animals strictly indoors behind closed windows, especially if the nest hangs near patio doors or air conditioning condensers. Turn off vibrating garden equipment like lawn mowers and leaf blowers, which agitate stinging colonies from over forty feet away. Never throw water, stones, or gasoline at the structure, as aerial hornets track and attack movement aggressively.

Aerial colonies thrive inside sheltered architectural alcoves, including chimney flashing gaps, under vinyl siding corners, and behind attic gable vents. Paper wasps favor open umbrella-shaped combs beneath porch ceilings, whereas European hornets nest deep within tree hollows or wall voids. Technicians inspect rooflines, fence rails, and crawl space vents to locate concealed flight paths before applying treatment.
